The museum’s permanent display uses detailed models to show what life in Birka may have been like during the Viking Age. It also has archaeological finds and replicas from excavations on the island, maps from ground-penetrating radar surveys, and a runestone that was long thought lost. The exhibition “Buried at Birka” features people from different centuries: Älgmannen and Ynglingen from the 700s, the Woman with the Green Beaker from the 800s, and the Warrior Woman from the 900s.
The museum shop sells books about Vikings and the exhibition, as well as replicas of beads found on the island, jewellery, glass and household objects. The shop accepts Swish, cards and cash.
For 2026, museum-only admission is 130 SEK (about $13.7) for adults and 65 SEK (about $6.84) for children aged 6–12; children aged 0–5 enter free.
