complaint about a faulty product

A complaint to a seller about a faulty product or service. Under the Consumer Sales Act you can complain about faults for up to three years after the purchase, and you must complain within two months of discovering the fault, or you may lose the right.

Faults discovered within the first two years are presumed to have existed from the start, so you only need to show that there is a fault. The seller can offer to repair or replace the product, and if that fails you may be entitled to a price reduction or your money back.

Keep the receipt and complain in writing. If you cannot agree, the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN) can try the case.
