Swedish Public Employment Service

Registers jobseekers, runs Platsbanken and checks the job search of people paid by an a-kassa.

Arbetsförmedlingen

What it handles: registering as a jobseeker, the job listings in Platsbanken, action plans, labour market programmes, and the monthly activity report that people paid by an unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa) must submit.

How to reach it: register and report on My Pages, call the switchboard for a specific person, or get help at a state service centre.

Where people get stuck: if you receive money from an a-kassa you must apply for a set number of suitable jobs each month and send the activity report on time, or you risk a warning or losing days of compensation. The a-kassa itself, not Arbetsförmedlingen, decides and pays the money.
