The amount of incorrect payments is 3.4 percent of the total unemployment insurance benefits paid out, or SEK 24.4 billion, in 2025. This is approximately the same as in previous years, according to the Unemployment Insurance Inspectorate's (IAF) annual review.
More than half, approximately SEK 500 million, of the incorrect payments are due to applicants providing incorrect information about their income, their own business or studies.
But the unemployment funds and the Swedish Public Employment Service also make mistakes.
"Compared with our previous studies, the Swedish Public Employment Service causes fewer errors, while the unemployment funds cause more that lead to incorrect payments," IAF Director General Mathias Wahlsten says in a press release.
