Nearly 342,000 people were registered as unemployed with the Swedish Public Employment Service (the national employment agency) at the end of September. This corresponds to 6.4 percent of the workforce, down from 6.9 percent in the same period last year.
The trend is visible across the country and among both men and women, as well as people born in Finland and those born abroad. The number of long-term unemployed is also falling.
"We see that the economy continues to strengthen and that the labor market is recovering. But unemployment is still high, and the trend differs between different groups of unemployed people," Marcus Löwing, a labor market analyst at the Swedish Public Employment Service, says in a press release.
For people with disabilities and those aged 55–66, the trend is less positive.
