The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has pledged 404 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 4.2 billion Swedish kronor, in support of Palestinians at an emergency aid conference in Jordan.
This brings the total support from the US since the outbreak of the Gaza war to approximately seven billion kronor. Blinken is simultaneously urging other countries to provide more to the Palestinian people.
It is still unclear how the funds will be distributed. The US has focused on delivering contributions to the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) and private aid organisations.
The US Congress has banned contributions to the primary aid organisation on site for Palestinians, the UN agency Unrwa, after Israel accused several Unrwa employees in Gaza of participating in the terrorist attack against Israel on 7 October.
