The tax return opens on March 17 and for those who make no changes or additions, a refund can be deposited into their account as early as April if they declare by March 31.

But don't worry, you have until May 4. If you also want to make deductions on your tax return, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the rules that apply.

Travel to and from work, renting out private homes and selling homes are among the most common deductions Swedes make. It's also where the Swedish Tax Agency sees the most errors - year after year.

"This mainly concerns information that you fill in yourself," says Helena Karlsson, tax return expert at the Swedish Tax Agency.

In this year's tax return, the Swedish Tax Agency will take a closer look at travel deductions and at rental of housing.

"We know that there is already a lot wrong here."

The Swedish Tax Agency urges anyone planning to make deductions in their tax return to keep careful track of what applies to avoid errors.

"If you are going to claim a deduction, you have to read up on it - can I really make this deduction?"

The Swedish Tax Agency says it is not possible to determine whether mistakes are made intentionally or unintentionally. However, the agency is aware that many people make mistakes and also find it quite tricky to navigate all the rules.

"We really want to be on hand and help so that it is easier than many people think," says Helena Karlsson, who suggests that you can get a lot of help via the Swedish Tax Agency's website.

Is completely unnecessary

Another way to avoid errors is to declare digitally, to avoid calculation errors.

"It's totally unnecessary."

Other precautions include checking your information properly and making sure the Swedish Tax Agency has the correct account information.

"Some people are busy and forget to submit the declaration. Make sure you really have that receipt in front of you because then you know that you have submitted your declaration," says Helena Karlsson.

March 17: The declaration opens.

March 31: Last day to approve to receive a refund in April.

April 7-10: Tax refund for those who receive a refund in April.

May 4: Last day to file for everyone (unless you have a deferral)

June 9-12: Tax refund for those who filed by May 4.
