The woman was found exhausted and injured in the Snowy Mountains mountain range in the state of New South Wales in Australia, according to several media outlets.
She had a broken foot and appears to have been bitten by a snake, and was also severely hypothermic. The woman was initially treated on site before being transported to a hospital. Her condition is now stable.
The 48-year-old woman, an award-winning photographer who, among other things, photographs wild horses, was born and raised in Sweden. She moved to Australia 20 years ago and has several times hiked and photographed in the area of Kosciuszko national park where she went missing.
She's incredibly lucky to have made it. She's obviously had it really tough, says police officer Toby Lindsay according to BBC.
One of the volunteers who participated in the search for the woman describes the area where they searched as very inaccessible.
The vegetation is incredibly dense. You can't see more than five meters in front of you, he tells Australian ABC.
