The Government has decided on Thursday to close the embassies in Mali and Burkina Faso by the end of 2024. Instead, a new embassy will be opened in Senegal's capital Dakar in 2025, according to a press release.
The background is that the Swedish aid to Mali and Burkina Faso is being phased out. In Dakar, there are already several UN agencies and other European countries represented, as the city is a key hub for regional issues affecting West Africa.
