The nationally known former boarding school Solbacka in Gnesta may not open again. The School Inspectorate stops the plans for a upper secondary school in the premises, reports local media.

Last winter, the Sisyfos group and the school entrepreneur Knut Pousette applied to start a upper secondary school under the name Solbacka läroverk from the autumn term 2026.

But the School Inspection Authority rejects the application and makes the assessment that there is no demand for a school with that orientation. On the contrary, the number of upper secondary school places in the county should be reduced or maintained at the current level.

The old boarding school Solbacka existed until 1973. The school's most famous student is the author Jan Guillou who described a school time full of hazing and oppression in his novel "Ondskan" from 1981.
