The 37-year-old man was arrested in Oslo after a trip to China in early July and has been detained since then. He is said to have had information with him intended for Chinese intelligence, but the authorities do not disclose what kind of information it is.
The man denies the crime and requests to be released, but prosecutor Line Nyvoll Nygaard requests that the detention be extended.
We have carried out a number of investigative steps. It's about interviewing witnesses and reviewing a large amount of data, she says to Norwegian TV 2.
The man suspected of espionage is said to have a higher education degree from a university in China, and has, among other things, run a company that offers consulting services on international political issues to public and private institutions.
