S leader Magdalena Andersson wants to enter into a ten-year pact with the Moderates against gang crime. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) counters by inviting all eight parties to "talks about necessary reforms."

Andersson made the statement in connection with his Christmas speech in Kärrtorp in southern Stockholm.

It is a huge failure that so many residential areas are unsafe, she said.

That so many lives are being taken unnecessarily. That children are at risk of being drawn into crime.

Andersson emphasizes that the fight against gangs must last over time, regardless of governments, and that cross-bloc cooperation is therefore needed, as in Denmark.

There must be an end to politicians who want to take responsibility for the country squabbling to score political points.

Andersson has now invited the Prime Minister, Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson, to talks about forming a ten-year pact, for further tougher sentences, more police officers and continued investments in the justice system.

“The spine”

According to Andersson and the party's legal policy spokesperson Teresa Carvalho, the Social Democrats and the government agree on "most things" when it comes to efforts against gang crime.

This government has done many good things, says Andersson.

But she also points out several S proposals that she would like to include in a cross-bloc agreement, for example, that gang criminals should be able to be subject to a travel ban, a contact ban or a ban on transferring money through a prosecutor's decision.

But above all, S wants to see greater efforts to prevent children from being drawn into crime.

The S leader does not rule out that more parties could be part of a ten-year pact against the gangs, but says:

It is good if the spine is S and M.

C-leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist welcomes the S-initiative for a ten-year pact and is "ready for constructive discussions".

Currents counter

Minister of Justice (M) Gunnar Strömmer states in a written comment on the S proposal that the government's policy is firm, but that he is happy to "test whether there is broader support in the Riksdag for this policy".

He will therefore invite all eight parties to "discussions about the necessary reforms that lie ahead of us", that is, the proposals the government will present to parliament this spring.

Strömmer believes that V, MP and perhaps even C are included in Magdalena Andersson's intended government basis and that they should therefore also be included.

V and MP, unlike S, have opposed significantly more points in the government's criminal policy.
