”The Liberals' dilemma is that they are and want to continue being a part of a government base, but at the same time this conditions it in a way that makes it less realistic that it can actually be a continuation after 2026”, he says in a text message to TT.
The party leader Simona Mohamsson's proposal to the party board – which was unanimously adopted – is that The Liberals want to see a bourgeois government under the leadership of The Moderate Party, but that SD should be kept out.
”The Liberals have good arguments for their choice, but the balance of power in relation to SD makes it very difficult to see any realism in that they can continue in the same way next term”, says Andreas Johansson Heinö.
The Sweden Democrats' party leader Jimmie Åkesson has also been clear in his ultimatum: Either SD sits in the government after the next election or they go into opposition.
”If the result of the election in just over a year gives a continued Tidö majority, which includes The Liberals, they need to change this message when the election is carried out”, he writes on X.
Andreas Johansson Heinö believes that today's message risks overshadowing The Liberals' opportunities to reach out with their policy.
”The risk is imminent that Simona Mohamsson will need to devote the election campaign to talking more about the government issue than about policy issues. It has, on the other hand, been the party's fate for several years now, which is why today's message does not mean any major change”, he says.
