Poland wants to temporarily abolish the right of asylum in the country as part of a new migration policy. The reason is that human traffickers and countries like Russia and Belarus are abusing the system, claims the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
I say loudly and proudly that our migration strategy will include a temporary abolition of the right to asylum on our territory, he says.
Tusk, who is to present a migration policy package on Tuesday, said in a speech on Saturday that Poland will wage a "ruthless" fight against undocumented immigrants who enter the country.
The state must regain 100 percent control over who enters and leaves Poland.
Poland, a member of NATO and the EU, accuses Russia and Belarus of staging a wave of asylum-seeking migrants in a "hybrid attack" to destabilize Europe, which the Belarusian government denies.
