Iranian authorities have approved that the Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights activist Narges Mohammadi be hospitalized for care. This is reported by the group Free Narges Coalition, which is fighting for her release from Evin Prison in Iran. However, mere hospitalization is not enough, the group emphasizes, and stresses that she needs comprehensive treatment for a range of different illnesses.
Narges Mohammadi suffers from a heart disease, and according to a medical report published in September, a new serious complication has developed in her aorta. For the past nine weeks, she has felt ill, and her support group demands her immediate release and full access to care.
On Saturday, her sentence was extended by another six months after she protested against the execution of another political prisoner in the women's section of the prison.
The imprisoned Narges Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year. She has now been imprisoned for 30 months. In January, she was sentenced to an additional 15 months.
