The 32-year-old man was employed at Mulago Hospital north of Kampala, according to Diana Atwine, permanent secretary of Uganda's Ministry of Health.
After getting a fever, he was treated at several different locations in the country. The man died on Wednesday, and it was only after his death that it was confirmed that he had contracted Ebola.
The health authorities have "full control" over the situation, according to Atwine. The man had contact with at least 44 people, including 30 healthcare workers and a patient at the hospital in Kampala, according to the Ministry of Health.
Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids. Common symptoms are fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding. The mortality rate has been estimated to be 50-90 percent.
