Norway may get a NATO base for drones, according to the government in Oslo.

Several cities in Northern Europe are reportedly involved in discussions regarding the base's location.

The base, where surveillance drones of the type Global Hawk are to be stationed, is intended to strengthen NATO's surveillance capacity in the northern areas.

The Global Hawk drones, which are around 15 meters long with a wingspan of 40 meters, can monitor areas of 100,000 square kilometers per day. They are primarily used by the defense alliance NATO, NASA, and the US Air Force.

A decision on the base is expected to take a few years, according to Norwegian media.
