The story of the neck ring – which was found last week in connection with excavation work in Trollhättan – has now taken a new turn.
Niklas Ytterberg, antiquarian at the County Administrative Board in Västra Götaland, called the find "sensational" at the beginning of the week, and it was established that the neck ring was over 2,000 years old and made of gold.
But now the County Administrative Board is backing down. At least partially. To P4 Väst, Mats Herklint, head of the County Administrative Board's cultural environment unit, says that they should not have established that the neck ring is made of gold before an analysis is complete.
According to both P4 Väst and TTELA, rumors have now begun to spread that someone had placed the object on the site.
It's obvious that no one has bent an iron rod, wrapped wire around it, and sprayed it with Biltema's gold paint, says antiquarian Niklas Ytterberg to TTELA.
The analysis results are expected to arrive on Friday afternoon, according to the radio. It remains to be seen if it's a golden message.
