Another series of air strikes against Beirut's southern suburbs has been carried out by Israel, the same day as Hizbollah fired the largest number of projectiles against Israel in two months.

Images show large fires breaking out in the evening darkness after the Israeli bombardments, which follow several attacks in the areas also during the daytime.

Israel has issued warnings before the attacks, which have destroyed several large buildings.

Lebanon is closing down all education on site in schools in the Beirut area until the end of the year due to the war.

Hizbollah, in turn, has fired a large number of projectiles on Sunday - around 250 according to Israel's military - against several areas in Israel. Rockets reached, among other places, Tel Aviv.

Damage is reported in several parts of the country after the shelling, which has continued throughout Sunday.

Military bases attacked

Hizbollah claims to have targeted, among other things, the Israeli intelligence service's headquarters at the military base Glilot outside Tel Aviv and a naval base in Ashdod with robot and drone attacks.

In southern Lebanon, the Shia militia reports that six Israeli tanks were destroyed.

Earlier in the day, Israel is said to have attacked a Lebanese military facility in al-Amiriya. A soldier was killed and several were injured.

Israel has killed more than 40 Lebanese soldiers since the war between Israel and Hizbollah broke out - despite the Lebanese army not being a party to the war.

Ceasefire reportedly discussed

Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati calls it an attack on the ongoing efforts towards a ceasefire.

"Israel says once again, with Lebanese blood, shamelessly no to the solution being discussed", he says in a statement.

According to Israeli media, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has, on the other hand, called a meeting on Sunday about the US-negotiated proposal for a ceasefire with Hizbollah, which is now on the table.

During the day, Lebanon's Health Department has also raised the death toll to 29 people after Saturday's massive Israeli attack on central Beirut, which is not reported to have been preceded by a warning. The death toll is feared to rise.

In Lebanon, at least 3,754 people have been confirmed dead in the war, according to the Health Department, most of them since the escalation in September.

On the Israeli side, authorities report that at least 82 soldiers and 47 civilians have been killed.
