Four Republicans voted against President Donald Trump and joined Democrats in ending the war. Trump claims the war is already over, with the ceasefire in place between the United States and Iran, but American troops are still in the area.

The vote primarily has symbolic value as Trump can veto it if the Senate also votes against it.

Trump claimed earlier on Wednesday that peace talks with Iran are going "very well."

"I hear that the negotiations themselves are actually going very well," Trump said at a press conference in the Oval Office, adding that an agreement could be reached this weekend.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi gave a different picture in an interview earlier Wednesday with the Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen.

The communication channel with the US is still open, but no “tangible progress” has been made in the negotiations, Araghchi said.
