The outgoing Center Party leader Anna Karin-Hatt is the highest-paid politician in politics. She has neither been a minister nor a member of parliament since taking office in May – despite this, her salary is a whopping 228,167 kronor per month.
For comparison, a minister receives at least 161,000 SEK in fees and a member of parliament 78,500 SEK.
At the extraordinary general meeting in April, the Center Party decided that Hatt would receive ten income base amounts per year and an annual ministerial salary. The party is not so generous towards Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist. It is proposed that she only receive a ministerial salary of 161,000 kronor.
“No party salary”
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will become the highest-paid party leader after Hatt's resignation. His monthly salary as Prime Minister in 2025 will be 204,000 kronor. However, he will not receive a salary from the Moderates.
Ebba Busch (KD) receives 32,200 kronor in party leadership fees from the Christian Democrats in addition to the 161,000 kronor she receives as Minister of Energy and Industry. In total, this amounts to 193,200 kronor per month.
The Liberals' Simona Mohamsson receives 176,700 kronor per month, of which 161,000 kronor is the fee as Minister of Education and Integration. The remaining 15,700 kronor is paid by the party. The Liberals pay 20 percent of the parliamentary fee to the party leader.
The Sweden Democrats' Jimmie Åkesson has a monthly salary of 164,850 kronor, of which 78,500 kronor is parliamentary remuneration and 86,350 kronor is party leadership remuneration. The party does not have a formal policy on party leadership remuneration.
“Double parliamentary fees”
Magdalena Andersson (S) receives double the parliamentary fee in salary from the party and her parliamentary fee is deducted from it. Andersson thus receives an extra 78,500 kronor from the Social Democrats and her monthly salary ends up at 157,000.
The Green Party's spokespeople Amanda Lind and Daniel Helldén each receive 78,500 kronor from the parliamentary fee. No additional compensation is paid by the party, but they pay five percent of the fee as a party donation. The Green Party's policy is that spokespeople should have the same salary as members of parliament.
The Left Party's Nooshi Dadgostar receives 78,500 kronor in parliamentary fees. She does not receive a party leader's fee. The Left Party is the only party with an official party tax. The party states that Nooshi Dadgostar pays approximately 13,000 kronor a month in party tax from her net salary.
The compilation of the party leaders' monthly salaries includes any government ministerial salary, parliamentary salary and party leader's salary.
