The property is located at one of the entrances to the base and has unique conditions for strengthening the defence of Muskö Base, especially against drones, the Swedish Armed Forces write in a press release.
The application comes against the backdrop of “the serious security situation.” The property is the only location the Armed Forces do not have at their disposal to establish an effective defence of the Muskö base, the authority states.
"Against this background, the Swedish Fortifications Agency has been commissioned by the Armed Forces to apply to the government for permission to expropriate the property in question," says Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edström, Chief of the Defence Staff, in the authority's dispatch.
"The security situation requires us to act and not accept the risk that the current ownership of this property entails. Current conditions do not benefit Sweden and NATO, they benefit Russia."
The application has been submitted to the government, which will now handle the matter.
