Google owner Alphabet has overtaken iPhone maker Apple by market capitalization for the first time since 2019. But chipmaker and AI winner Nvidia is - despite a price drop of 8 percent in just over two months - the unchallenged number one.

Alphabet's closing price of just over $322 per share on Wall Street on Wednesday gives it a total market capitalization of $3,892 billion (approximately SEK 35,920 billion). This compares with the previous runner-up Apple's market capitalization of $3,863 billion.

Nvidia, still number one in market capitalization, was trading at $189.10 per share and valued at $4,604 billion. This is an increase from about $350 billion three years ago.

The 8 percent decline for Nvidia since its historic price peak at the end of October last year is related to increased concerns that all recent AI investments have in fact inflated a financial bubble.

Nvidia is also being increasingly challenged in the race for investments in AI by competitors such as Advanced Micro Devices as well as Alphabet and Amazon.
