Oil prices plunge after Vance links Republicans’ election loss to Iran war

Oil prices are falling sharply after JD Vance blamed the Republicans’ election loss on the war with Iran.

“The reason we lost is the war. The president said so himself last night,” Vance wrote in a long post on X in the afternoon Swedish time.

At the same time, futures prices for crude oil plummeted. The price of North Sea oil (Brent) has fallen almost nine percent on Wednesday and is trading below $95 per barrel.

American WTI oil has fallen by almost 8 percent, to $88.6 per barrel.

According to CNBC, investors see Vance’s statement as an indication that the election result could prompt President Donald Trump to begin negotiations with Iran.
