The boy and his mother had a picnic in a park in Brisbane when an unknown man suddenly attacked. The baby suffered severe injuries when large parts of his body were scalded.

The suspected man could be identified through surveillance images, but managed to flee the country before the police could intervene. Queensland police officer Paul Dalton has called the incident on August 28 the most cowardly crime he has seen during his long career, according to AFP.

We will continue until we find you, says Dalton about the perpetrator, whose motive remains unclear.

The attacked baby has been forced to undergo several operations for his burn injuries and will likely need additional skin transplants.

According to Australian ABC News, the mother says that since the incident, she has been living with constant fear, anxiety, panic attacks, and stress.
