It was Iran that was behind the cyberattack on the Trump campaign, which became known earlier in August, says the FBI and several other federal authorities in a joint statement.
According to the FBI, the attack is part of a broader strategy from Tehran, aiming to influence American politics and undermine trust in democratic institutions:
"We have observed increasingly aggressive activity from Iran during this election campaign, specifically regarding operations targeting the American public and cyberattacks on presidential campaigns", the statement says.
The Islamic regime is also said to have attempted to carry out attacks on Kamala Harris' campaign.
Iran's UN delegation has previously denied involvement and stated that the country has neither reason nor motive to interfere in the American presidential election.
