European Court of Human Rights Gives Italy Two-Year Deadline

The European Court of Human Rights condemns Italy for not having addressed the waste crisis in Campania.

Now the country has two years to develop a "comprehensive strategy" to handle the situation in the region, the court has decided.

For many years, the Italian mafia has been burying and dumping toxic waste in Campania. The number of cancer cases has increased in the region, where almost three million people live.
