This is the first nomination of Edholm. So far, all nominations have concerned Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L).
We are, after all, Sweden's education party, and then it is extremely central that we have a leader who is well-versed in those issues, says Roger Haddad, chairman for L in Västmanland.
He also highlights Lotta Edholm's long experience from both local and national political work.
Västmanland also gives a second name – Romina Pourmokhtari.
The electoral committee has encouraged and urged us to submit suggestions for additional names that could be relevant for this assignment, says Haddad.
Neither Lotta Edholm nor Romina Pourmokhtari has publicly announced whether they are interested in becoming party leader.
So far, The Liberals in Västerbotten, Kronoberg, Jämtland, Skaraborg, as well as The Liberal Youth League and The Liberal Students have backed Pourmokhtari.
So far, none of the three heavy L-federations have announced who they want as the new party leader after Johan Pehrson. Stockholm, Västsverige, and Skåne have together nearly 60 percent of the delegates at the extraordinary national meeting where the next party leader is elected – 102 of a total of 178 delegates.
The formal nomination process began on Monday. The election of a new party leader takes place at an extraordinary national meeting on Tuesday, June 24.
