Around 40 soldiers have been killed in an attack on a military base in Chad, according to the African country's government.
Anonymous government officials point to the jihadist movement Boko Haram as responsible for the attack. They tell AFP that the extremists attacked a facility in Ngouboua, in the western part of the country, where more than 200 soldiers were located on Sunday evening.
Chad's presidential office also reports on the attack and around 40 fatalities, but without attributing it to Boko Haram. President Mahamat Déby Itno visited the base on Monday and announced a larger military operation to strike back at the perpetrators.
