Current minimum salary for work permits in Sweden

This means that the applicant must have a monthly salary of at least 80% of the median salary in Sweden. Over the past five years, the minimum salary for work permits has gradually increased in Sweden. The current minimum salary for work permits is SEK 28,480 per month, effective from June 18, 2024. This is compared to the median salary in Sweden, which is SEK 35,600. This requirement applies to both new applications and extensions of work permits.

Occupations affected

This increased requirement primarily affects occupations in the service sector, healthcare, and social care, as well as jobs with lower education requirements, such as berry pickers and fishermen.

  • Interns with a connection to higher education
  • Interns in international exchange programs
  • Au pairs
  • Professional athletes
