The work of identifying the victims after the accident has been difficult and time-consuming, as many bodies were severely injured in the crash.
But now the work is complete, announces the president.
During the night, the identification of all 179 victims has been completed, says the country's acting president Choi Sang-Mok on New Year's Day.
South Korean and American investigators are conducting an investigation together with the aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
A comprehensive analysis and review of the aircraft's structure and the black box data will reveal the cause of the accident, says Choi.
Joo Jong-Wan, deputy minister for civil aviation, reports that the first retrieval of information from the voice recorder – the part of the black boxes that records sound from the cockpit – has already been completed.
We plan to start converting it to audio format, he says.
The second black box, the flight data recorder, is missing a contact.
Experts are currently conducting a final review to determine how to extract data from it, says Joo Jong-Wan.
The accident occurred at the airport in Muan, in southern South Korea, on December 29.
