K. A. Almgren Silk Weaving & Museum is in the mill’s original premises on Repslagargatan. The business began in 1833, and the factory environment dates from the 1860s. Visit Stockholm describes it as the Nordic region’s only still-active silk-weaving mill, where silk fabrics and ribbons are woven on original machines.
The permanent exhibition, “Fabriken” (“The Factory”), follows the mill’s history from its beginnings through the rise and decline of Sweden’s textile industry. It tells the stories of women who worked there and shows the shawls, ribbons and clothing they made. The museum connects the company’s history with silk production in Sweden and the role of women in the country’s industrialisation.
A shorter introductory tour is offered Monday to Saturday at 13:00 and is included in the museum admission. Group tours can be booked for daytime or evening visits. The material provided does not give a visit duration or the admission price. Check the museum’s website for current details before planning around a particular date.
