Hornsgatspuckeln is the raised part of southern Hornsgatan. Visit Stockholm describes it as what remains of the buildings that once stood closest to the old street. The stretch is known today for art galleries and historically important buildings.
The change came with the arrival of cars in the early 20th century. Many of Stockholm’s streets were narrow and poorly suited to motor traffic, and Hornsgatan was one of them. To make room for a wider, two-way street for cars and trams, buildings along the southern parts of Hornsgatan were demolished and their lots paved with tarmac. The raised section is the remnant of that earlier street edge.
You can visit to see the galleries and buildings, or use Hornsgatspuckeln as a starting point for a Sunday walk. Monteliusvägen, described by Visit Stockholm as scenic, is nearby. Visit Stockholm’s information gives no visit duration, entry price or opening times.
