Cisternerne is an underground art hall in a former water reservoir in Frederiksberg. It is in Søndermarken, opposite Frederiksberg Palace. The venue describes it as a pocket below the city where mobile-phone signal does not reach. Its rooms are sparsely lit, cold and damp, and artworks are made for the reservoir’s architecture, climate, atmosphere and history.
Cisternerne is presenting Marina Abramović: Seven Deaths, a filmic opera installation in which the performance artist stages death in seven well-known female roles from opera. The museum invites an internationally recognised artist or architect each year to create an exhibition for its underground rooms. Its events listing gives the next open introduction to Seven Deaths as Wednesday, 4 November, from 18:00 to 18:15.
Opening hours are Tuesday 11:00–18:00, Wednesday and Thursday 11:00–20:00, and Friday through Sunday 11:00–18:00; it is closed on Mondays. The venue says the atmosphere can fascinate children and adults. Expect cold, damp conditions and no mobile signal inside. The location is Søndermarken opposite Frederiksberg Palace, 2000 Frederiksberg.
