The Funeral Museum in Ljungby traces customs and practices around death and funerals in the 19th and 20th centuries. Its small room settings show and explain what happened from the announcement of a death through the funeral feast.
In the 1800s and early 1900s, death was a constant presence in people’s lives, and neighbors and relatives helped with the tasks that followed. The museum describes ceremonies shaped by practical needs, church customs and superstition. It is housed in an old itinerant church and opened in 2004 as the Nordic countries’ first funeral museum.
The museum is open year-round for groups that book a guided tour in advance. It also has public opening periods, announced separately; during summer, visitors can come without booking. Check the announced opening period before setting out.
