The Volvo Museum in Arendal closed in December 2023. Its successor is World of Volvo, a brand centre in the heart of Gothenburg, where parts of the museum collection are shown in exhibitions that change over time.
The former museum opened in 1995 and presented Volvo’s story in chronological order, from its beginnings in the 1920s to the modern era. Its collection included hundreds of cars, trucks, buses, boat engines and aircraft engines. The displays covered several kinds of transport, not cars alone. World of Volvo says it preserves and develops the heritage built by the museum. Some of the former museum’s vehicles and objects are now in its exhibitions, but the new centre’s focus is a broader experience of the Volvo world rather than the collection alone.
A visit to the former museum in Arendal is no longer possible. For a Volvo-focused visit in Gothenburg, World of Volvo is where parts of the old collection can now be seen. Because its exhibitions change over time, the objects on view are not described as a fixed, complete presentation of the former museum’s holdings.
