The Gothenburg Cathedral, formally called Gustavi Domkyrka in Swedish, was inaugurated in 1815. Architect Carl Wilhelm Carlberg designed it in the Neoclassical style. Inside, look for the gold altarpiece, the chancel’s wood columns painted to resemble stone, and the angels sculpted by Jacques Adrien Masreliez. The cathedral is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:30 and at weekends from 10:00 to 16:00.
This week, Vocal Art Ensemble of Sweden performs Light in the Dark at 19:00 on Saturday 7 November 2026. On Sunday 15 November, a service on Jewish-Christian relations is scheduled for 11:00, followed by a Bach concert at 17:00. The church also lists free group singing for Christmas songs and hymns on 15 and 16 December.
