Örgryte nya kyrka was inaugurated by Bishop Edvard Rodhe on 6 July 1890. It was built after Örgryte congregation grew during the 1880s and its older church, with fewer than 250 seats, became too small. The church is in neo-Gothic style.

Its interior has changed several times. In the 1930s, the walls and ceiling were smoothed and the chancel was painted pink. A 1970s renovation brought blue tones. During work in the late 1990s to accommodate a north-German baroque organ, workers found traces of earlier paint, and the church’s original appearance was restored.

The church has two organs: an English Willis organ in its original state from the 1870s and a north-German baroque organ associated with the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Its triptych, made by Thor Fagerkvist in 1951, depicts the birth and resurrection of Jesus and the first Pentecost. During Lent, the triptych is closed, showing scenes of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet and praying in Gethsemane. The church also hosts services, concerts and other events.
