Örgryte Old Church is a heritage-listed church in Gothenburg. Its origins date to the 13th century, when a rectangular Romanesque stone church with a choir and altar at the east end stood on the site. The church has paintings on its ceiling. Additions and rebuilding over the centuries gave it its present form in the early 19th century.
Today, Örgryte parish uses the church mainly for baptisms, weddings and funerals. Services are held occasionally, particularly on church feast days. The parish describes it as one of Gothenburg’s popular churches for these ceremonies and says it holds a special place for many locals.
Örgryte pastorate suggests walking between its churches. At each stop, walkers can read facts about the church and find a discovery task for children. The walk can also be made as a pilgrimage, with time for reflection. The church’s website gives no general visitor hours or admission price, and does not state how long a visit takes.
