The shop is in Gothenburg’s Linné neighbourhood, below street level at the corner of Linnégatan and Fjärde Långgatan. It sells retro-inspired second-hand fashion for women, men and children, with a selection that changes daily. Shoppers can also browse books, ceramics, glassware and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. A dedicated section focuses on vintage design, where finding a particular item may take patience.

Björkåfrihet began at Björkå Glasbruk in the forests of Småland. It was originally part of the international Emmaus movement and is now independent. The organisation supports groups working against oppression in Sweden and abroad, including work related to healthcare, rehabilitation, asylum rights and support for undocumented people.

The shop also holds themed events throughout the year, with music, books, photography and niche interests among their subjects. Its events include Guldkorn, Easter and Christmas markets, and Nördorado. The changing stock makes browsing part of the visit, while the vintage design section offers a place to search for a particular kind of find.
