Bengans Skivbutik is a record shop in Gothenburg spread over 700 square metres. Its stock includes vinyl, CDs, films, books and merchandise. Visit Sweden describes its selection as one of the largest in the Nordic countries, making it a place to browse several kinds of music and related items under one roof.
The shop has been a meeting place for music lovers since it opened more than 50 years ago, according to Visit Sweden. A café sits next to the shop. It occasionally hosts live performances and film screenings, giving visitors another reason to check what is happening there when they visit.
Bengans has welcomed international artists including David Bowie, Belle and Sebastian and R.E.M. Swedish performers who have appeared there include Kent, Anna Ternheim, Thåström, Ulf Lundell and Lars Winnerbäck. The performers named by Visit Sweden span the shop’s history, alongside its retail offer of records, films, books and merchandise. A visit can centre on browsing the stock, stopping at the adjacent café, or both.
