Sandviken municipality lists several routes for experienced and inexperienced walkers. Hälsans stig is a 7-kilometre loop that passes along the canal, through Stadsparken and along several city streets. The municipality says it is currently walkable and its lighting has been repaired. The lights are on from 05:00 to 08:30 and from 15:00 to 22:00; other times are controlled by a light sensor.
Fäbodleden runs 28 kilometres between Kungsfors and Högbo, where it meets Gästrikeleden. Lenåsleden connects Fäbodleden with Gästrikeleden, and has a rest cabin along the route and a wind shelter at Mårtens Klack. Gästrikeleden is a marked 270-kilometre route around Gästrikland. In Sandviken, Högboleden links the travel centre with Högbo Bruk and passes Kvarnströmmen, described by the municipality as a midway stop. The trails pass through varied terrain including pine heaths, lakes, swamps and hills, and Gästrikeleden has traces of the region’s ironmaking history.
The municipality warns that visiting forests damaged by storms Johannes and Anna can be life-threatening. It says the trails have not been fully secured or inspected, and that the warning applies at least through 2026 in affected areas. Municipal crews are clearing municipal land; each landowner is responsible for their own land. Västerhällarna is a shorter walk: the hike there takes about 45 minutes, and the municipality says the route is partly lit.
