Storjungfrun is the largest of the 500 islands in Söderhamn Municipality. The island is more than 20 kilometres south-east of Söderhamn, and the reserve covers 1,280 hectares. Visit Sweden describes it as the largest island in the Söderhamn archipelago and says it has marked hiking trails.

You can walk the trails and visit places with archaeological remains, harbours, a lighthouse, a chapel and shipwrecks. The reserve’s website says some species found on the island are rarely seen in Hälsingland. It also says visitors can see orchids, red-listed insects and fungi, and the white-flowered plant sweet woodruff in several places.

Four rental cabins stand beside the lighthouse, with service buildings, an eco-toilet, rubbish bins and a sauna. Transport to the island is booked when you book a cabin. The reserve is owned and managed by Söderhamn Municipality. For information about booking a cabin and transport, the reserve’s website directs visitors to Visit Söderhamn.
