Sweden Allocates 71 Million Kronor to Support Helicopter Rescue Services
The Government and the Sweden Democrats propose an allocation of 71 million kronor to the crisis-stricken Swedish Transport Administration. It is important in order for the ability to save human lives not to be weakened, says Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson (KD).
The Minister: The Swedish Maritime Administration's situation is worrying
The Swedish Transport Agency is planning drastic cutbacks to manage this year's budget – including closing helicopter bases and taking an icebreaker out of service. Infrastructure Minister Andreas Carlson says it is "of utmost importance that the core of the Swedish Transport Agency's essential services maintains a satisfactory level".
Helicopter bases closed - hitting defense
The Swedish Maritime Administration is in crisis and is forced to make drastic cutbacks. Two out of five helicopter bases are being closed and the authority is reducing icebreaking and maintenance of shipping lanes.
More Swedish-Finnish cooperation on icebreaking
Sweden and Finland will cooperate more on icebreaking. The government has tasked the Swedish Maritime Administration to form a working group with the Finnish Transport Agency.
