Sweden and Finland will cooperate more on icebreaking. The government has tasked the Swedish Maritime Administration to form a working group with the Finnish Transport Agency.
"The task is to create a good platform for cooperation on the 'system' for icebreaking to jointly meet the industry's needs," says Erik Eklund, Director-General of the Swedish Maritime Administration, in a press release.
He also highlights that with the entry into NATO, new demands are placed on transport and preparedness capabilities.
"Through a joint image, we will be able to ensure that traffic to the ports in Sweden and Finland can be maintained, despite difficult ice conditions."
The working group will also investigate, among other things, the conditions for the countries to make joint procurements within the icebreaker operations.
The result of the work will be presented on June 30, 2026.
