”This is a welcome message. We now have long-term economic conditions to maintain the capability at all helicopter bases. It is good for all of Sweden's rescue preparedness”, says Erik Eklund, Director-General of the Swedish Maritime Administration, in a press release.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the Swedish Maritime Administration planned major cutbacks. Among other things, the authority considered closing two of the five helicopter bases and that one of the six icebreakers would be taken out of service.

The five helicopter bases are located in Kristianstad, Gothenburg, Visby, Norrtälje and Umeå.
