Your first stop for most healthcare that is not an emergency: a local clinic with doctors, nurses and often other staff such as psychologists and physiotherapists. It handles common illnesses, check-ups, chronic conditions, prescriptions and referrals to specialists.

You can choose which vårdcentral to go to, and you can register with one, which is called att lista sig. Many are run by the region, others by private providers paid by the region; the patient fee is the same set by the region.

You can usually contact your vårdcentral by phone, through 1177 or in an app, and many offer video calls.
