high-cost protection
A cap on how much you pay for healthcare visits. Once your patient fees for outpatient care, such as visits to a health centre or a specialist, reach a set amount within twelve months, you get a frikort (exemption card) and pay nothing more for the rest of that period.
The twelve months start counting from your first visit, whenever in the year that is. The cap applies even if you seek care in another region, and a region may decide on a lower amount than the national ceiling.
There is a separate high-cost protection for prescription medicines and another for dental care. The current amounts are on 1177.se.
