1177 and the regions

The regions run public healthcare; 1177 is their shared advice line and website for finding care.

1177 och regionerna

What it handles: healthcare advice by phone, information on illnesses and treatment, finding a health centre (vårdcentral) and other clinics, and logged-in services for booking, prescriptions and messages to your clinic.

How to reach it: call 1177 for advice from a nurse, who can tell you where to go; in some regions you can get help in English. Choose your region at the top of 1177.se, since rules and fees differ. In an emergency call 112.

Where people get stuck: you can choose and register with (lista dig på) a vårdcentral yourself. Specialist care sometimes needs a referral, depending on your region's rules. There is a cap on what you pay for outpatient visits over twelve months.
