sick pay
The pay your employer gives you during the first two weeks you are off sick. It is normally 80 percent of the wages you lose, minus a qualifying deduction (karensavdrag) for the start of the period.
You must tell your employer on the first day you are ill. From the eighth day the employer can ask for a doctor's certificate. If you are still sick after 14 days, the employer reports it to Försäkringskassan and you apply there for sickness benefit (sjukpenning).
People without an employer who pays sick pay, such as the unemployed, apply to Försäkringskassan from the start.
